Hotels in Barcelona next to the Poble Espanyol

Hotels in Barcelona next to the Poble Espanyol

The whole of Spain in a single village.

The Andalusian district? Just cross Majorca and take the first street on your left.
These directions can only make sense if you are in the Poble Espanyol: an authentic village that offers you a tour of Spain without going beyond its walls.
It was to be demolished at the end of the 1929 International Exhibition for which it was built as a temporary attraction, but it was such a great success that the City decided to keet it, and nowadays it has become the 5th most popular tourist site in Barcelona. Its secret: the genius of its creators, four turnof- the century intellectuals. Guided by an original idea of Modernist architect Puig i Cadafalch, they visited 1,600 villages in the Iberian peninsula and then reproduced life-sized models of 117 buildings and typical sites from all over Spain.

Poble Espanyol has something for everyone:
For fans of contemporary art, there is the Fundación Fran Daurel, with works by artists like Picasso, Dalí, Miró, Tàpies, Barceló. Other treats are the sculpture “Entorn-Contorn” by Josep Guinovart and the Sculpture Garden with its splendid views over the city of Barcelona.

For shopping addicts and craft lovers, there are 22 shops and more than 40 workshops showcasing the different crafts, making Poble Espanyol an Area of Craft Interest declared and protected by the goverment Generalitat de Catalunya, and part of the city’s main commercial network, Barcelona Shopping Line as its only Art & Craft Shopping Center.

Families with children can have fun with the Gymkhana visit, a treasure hunt that helps you discover some of the site’s many curiosities.

And everyone will appreciate the audioguide service, bars and restaurants and many cultural events going on inside the village walls.
